Auten Lineage

According to PlacesNamed.com, "Auten" is the 7,500th most popular last name in the U. S.

My gg-grandmother was an Auten. Julia Ann Auten (1856-1931) was married to Samuel Shunk (1854-1912).

I am very grateful to an Auten family researcher for all her help with this line.

John W.

John W. Auten was born 11 April 1786 in Pennsylvania. He was my gggg-grandfather. He was married to Mary Miller (b. 1788). Their son Jacob was my ggg-grandfather.

Jacob

Jacob was born 6 August 1826 in Ohio. He died about 1877 in Lafayette, Owen County, Indiana. His first wife was Elizabeth Ann Bickerton (1826-1865). Their daughter Julia Ann was my gg-grandmother, and one of 10 children (three died young).

Jacob's second wife was Elizabeth Spangler. With her, he had another 5 children, 3 of whom survived to adulthood.

Julia Ann

Julia Ann was born 21 October 1856 in Owen County, Indiana, and died there on 22 December 1931. Her first husband was Samuel Shunk (1854-1912). They married 21 May 1876 in Owen County, Indiana, and had 9 children together. Their son, John Emery, was my great-grandfather.

She married again to Aaron J. Blake. She was about 56 when Samuel died, so I'll guess it was for companionship, since her children were grown.
